Look at Page 2 of today's Straits Times. (I would link you but then again I'm not stupid enough to pay subscription for BOTH the print and the Internet editions)

The developer is Rosewheel who spent 2 weeks in Singpaore in January studying the Replublic's upgraded Chinatown and other shopping centres. ... Rosewheel has now proposed a Singapore-style foodcourt surrounded by 100 retail shops with an Asian influence. "

Apparently I was wrong, the Singapore Life! festival did work. The Singapore Cancer of sterilised urban living has now spread to a place far away that held unforgettable memories. Does the London City Council not understand that a Chinatown is supposed to be colourful, vibrant and have a character of its own? Think Chinatown in New York. What makes them think that they should meddle with it and make it a shopping centre of sorts? Its silly enough that Singapore has gone ahead and done it - in the process destroying any last semblance of Chinatown culture, and now London is going to do it?
How can anyone be attracted by Chinatown Singapore? With its foldaway kiosks and shops selling all matter of rubbish catered for tourists, its overpriced and sub-standard eating houses... I dread to think what London is going to be like.
Its a sad day for travellers everywhere who want to catch a glimpse of life in the city they visit - and are now faced with a packaged commercial offering.
Lets take a minute of silence to those lost to the Singapore Cancer. Someone please stop them...

I totally agree especially after reading and zone easts special report this week but lets put put the blame where it really lies and that is on Robert Bourne the guy who runs Rosewheel the company that is manipulating Westminster council into selling out its present chinese community. Robert bourne and his lakeys like Horatio Cheng a disgraced Merton councillor who has sold his soul to this devil are trying to change London chinatown into a carbon copy of a singapore foodhall to obviously make themselves more indecently rich than they are and worst of all off the backs of every hard working chinese person that has lived or worked in the area. Not content with shutting down the end near charing cross road they appear to want to become the lord and masters of the whole of chinatown with the community being nothing more than puppets in their great plan. All we as chinese have to do is turn up and work in their scheme in one of their little boxes and we will then make some money but of course not as much as them and for that we should be eternally grateful to Mr.Bourne as our benevolent sugar daddy and the savior of our chinatown. Well I for one so no thank you Robert and Horatio and I hope everybody else can see you for what you really are.
