Relak One Corner

Its 5pm. And I know my brain has left the office for the day. Don't know why I'm so unmotivated recently.

*Face Palm*

So I was flipping though the papers when I chanced upon this ad that Ann Kok did for Slim Fit. Its for some bust enhancement treatment.

I seriously wonder, if pretty, young lasses are told, just before they go in for breast implants, that, "oh, everyone will forget that you did it in 5 years".

Maybe it IS true... *facepalm*

Angels and Demons Review

Caught the movie, Angels and Demons yesterday. It was brilliant.

Sure, it detracted from the book. Its a movie adaptation afterall, what do you expect? But the adaptations did not affect the flow of the movie.

Oscar winning performances from Tom Hanks and Ewan McGregor made the ticket price worth it. Excellent directing kept you on the edge of your seat.

Watching the movie brought back fond memories of my trip last July to Rome. I've actually been to all the churches, save Castel Sant'Angelo which were featured in the movie.

My take-away from the movie?

HANKS: I'm an academic. My mind tells me I will never understand God.

MCGREGOR: And your heart?

HANKS: Tells me I'm not meant to. Faith is a gift that I have yet to receive.

GO CATCH THE MOVIE! ITS GOOD!

Love Syringe - Or Why You Might Fall In Love With The Person You Do

"After studying the results over the years, Fisher has come up with a theory that love is created by three distinct brain systems — those for sex, romance, and attachment. She has described her findings in several books, most recently Why Him? Why Her? Here, an oversimplified version:

The Sex Drive. One of the main lust factories in the brain is a peach-pit-sized lump called the hypothalamus (deep in your skull, sitting just above the brain stem). This controls hunger and thirst. It also has receptor sites for testosterone, which fuels the sex drive in both men and women. So when you're feeling horny, the hypothalamus is working overtime. You don't have to be Richard Dawkins to figure out why evolution gave us the sex drive: Its job is to spread our DNA as widely and often as possible.

The Romance System. This produces the cocaine rush you get from beginning love. And cocaine is more than an idle metaphor. The reptilian brain — one of the nervous system's most ancient parts — floods you with dopamine, just as it does after you snort a line of blow. The dopamine gives you the same high, lack of sleep, delusional optimism, and obsessive thoughts. The great poet Robert Palmer was right: You can be addicted to love. Romance evolved so that you could focus your mating energies on appropriate partners — the most fertile woman, the best providing man.

The Attachment System. This is friendship on hyperdrive. While romance is thrilling, attachment is calming. It's created by a couple of hormones: vasopressin and oxytocin (not to be confused with Rush Limbaugh's painkiller OxyContin). Attachment evolved so that we could "tolerate our partners long enough to raise a kid together," says Fisher.

The three systems are intertwined. For instance, sex boosts attachment. When you have an orgasm, your brain pumps out oxytocin, heightening feelings of closeness. Which is why one-night stands often last past one night. And why exhausted married couples should force themselves to hump once in a while. In fact, semen itself contains oxytocin. You literally have a love syringe between your legs."

Honesty Pays... Or Does It?

Ouch

There are days, like today, where I wake up feeling as if someone has just hit me in the nuts.

Metaphorically, of course.

But ouch, nonetheless.

Wolverine

Watched Wolverine over the weekend with the gang. Can't say its a bad movie, but definately not a good one either.

I quote a review from IMDB, the movie was underdeveloped and overproduced.

Sure, the sequences were good. But the characters, even the lead were so underdeveloped that there were so many plot holes.

Frustration

Pressure builds. With no outlet. Leads to more pressure building, which leads to anxiety.

We seek relief and scan for whats around us.

We shower our affections on those that we would usually not bother, or to those who don't appreciate it.

We get hurt by their nonchalance, or because we deep down, we know they don't really deserve our affections in the first place or don't really appreciate it at all.

What happens. When you have too much love to give? And no place to put it?

Forks in the Road

Everyday we are faced with forks in the road. Decisions have to be made on which path to take.

Some decisions are straight-forward, and we come to a conclusion quite easily. Others, which may have a profound effect on your life, aren't that easy to make.

You want to do it. You think you know which path to take. But courage and risk adversity stops you?

Or the possible returns / fall out are too uncertain from this vantage point for you to make that decision.

What should I do? Just jump in?

Sweet Post Secret
